What's an Industrial Hygienist?

Industrial Hygienists are public health scientists committed to protecting the health and safety of people in the workplace and the community. Industrial hygienists help ensure a healthy working environment by evaluating workplace conditions and implementing protective control measures.

Most often, Industrial Hygienists specialize in industries where the majority of the employees are exposed to a potentially hazardous environment. Industrial Hygienists must be familiar with the industrial hazards for which they hold responsibility. Depending on the specialization of the Industrial Hygienist, these hazards may include: exposure monitoring, chemical hygiene, thermal stress, noise, radiation, biological hazards, etc.
